After a leak previously suggested Scream killer Ghostface would be a part of the video game Dead by Daylight, the DLC has now been officially confirmed in an all-new teaser video. The new content comes just in time for the game's three-year anniversary, as it was first released in the summer of 2016.
In the clip, a murderer wearing the Ghostface costume is shown purchasing various weapons in a grocery store, slaughtering the cashier in the process. We are able to get a good peek at what the killer will look like in the game, although the video does not show any actual gameplay footage. According to the clip, a full Ghostface reveal with more footage and information will come on May 31.
For those unfamiliar, Dead by Daylight is an asymmetrical multiplayer game played online. One player controls the killer, while four others control the various survivors. Of course, the goal of the killer is to take out every player on the map by sacrificing them to a higher power known as the Entity. Each one of the various killers have their own unique murder methods and special powers. Conversely, the survivors must try to escape with their lives by repairing generators and overcoming other obstacles to escape. Surviving can benefit greatly from teamwork, as a player's odds are much better the more survivors remain on the map.
So far, multiple other mainstream horror movie characters have already been included in the game. We have previously seen the additions of Halloween franchise star Michael Myers, Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, a pig mask-wearing Jigsaw from the Saw series, and the rebooted version of Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street. More recently, Bruce Campbell reprised the voice of Evil Dead hero Ash Williams and lent his likeness to the character for the inclusion of Ash as a playable survivor as well. This allows for horror fans to have mash-ups between Ash and other horror antagonists like Leatherface, Freddy Krueger, and now, Ghost Face.
Dead by Daylight is narrowing down on the inclusion of nearly every major horror movie franchise at this point. However, one glaring omission for the video game is that of Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th series. This most likely has to do with the fact Jason stars in the competing video game Friday the 13th: The Game, which remains very active despite shelving all future downloadable content. Additionally, the rights to the movie franchise are still caught up in a never-ending legal battle between the original movie's director and screenwriter, freezing any new content from being made for the foreseeable future. Still, because Jason previously made it into the Mortal Kombat series, you never really know for sure where he may end up.
The full reveal of Ghost Face in Dead by Daylight will take place on the game's official Twitch stream on May 31 at 3 p.m. EST. We can expect to see more of the character and find out more information then. For now, you can watch the teaser video below from Dead by Daylight channel on YouTube.
