Less than a month after Deadpool director Tim Miller surprisingly left the sequel Deadpool 2 over creative differences, 20th Century Fox has found his replacement. David Leitch, who along with Chad Stahelski directed the 2014 cult classic John Wick, has signed on to direct this highly-anticipated follow-up. It isn't known if production will still begin in early 2017, as previously rumored, or when the movie may be released, but those announcements may be coming soon now that a director is on board.

Deadline reports that David Letich beat out a number of top contenders to direct this superhero sequel, including Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods) and Magnus Martens (Banshee). David Leitch was an uncredited director on John Wick, working alongside his partner Chad Stahelski, both of whom had been stuntmen and stunt coordinators for the past two decades. David Leitch will make his solo directing debut with The Coldest City, starring Charlize Theron, which will hit theaters next year.

Shortly after Tim Miller's exit, rumors surfaced that the director disagreed with actor/producer Ryan Reynolds on the casting of Cable. During the post-credit scene of Deadpool, the Merc With the Mouth reveals that Cable, the iconic X-Force leader from the Marvel Comics, will be featured in Deadpool 2. Tim Miller reportedly wanted to cast Bloodline star Kyle Chandler as Cable, which Ryan Reynolds disagreed with. Ryan Reynolds wanted the character to be closer in age than he was in the comics, and the actor thought that Kyle Chandler was too young to pull off the Cable role. While Cable has not been cast yet, there was talk that the sequel was getting close to casting another key role before Tim Miller left.

We reported in October that a number of actresses have tested for the Domino role, such as Kelly Rohrbach, Eve Hewson, Ruby RoseMackenzie DavisLizzy Caplan, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Sienna Miller, Sofia Boutella, Stephanie Sigman and Sylvia Hoeks. Now that a new director is on board, it remains to be seen if these actresses will still be in consideration for the role, or if David Leitch will start the casting process over again. In the Marvel Comics, Domino is also part of the X-Force team lead by Cable, and 20th Century Fox is also developing an X-Force movie, but we haven't heard much about that project in quite some time, which has Jeff Wadlow attached to write the script and possibly direct. It has been previously reported that Deadpool 3 is already being planned and will prominently feature X-Force.

Deadpool made history by becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie in history by taking in $782.6 million worldwide. Deadpool 2 will bring back Ryan Reynolds as the Merc With the Mouth, but no other Deadpool cast members have been confirmed to return, such as Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller or Brianna Hidenbrand. There are rumors that Brianna Hildenbrand's Negasonic Teenage Warhead could also cross over to The New Mutants movie 20th Century Fox is developing.
