Deadpool 3 has had a lot of rumors circulating around it recently, and one of them sparked an interesting fan theory that many people are talking about: Deadpool is going to kill Kang. The rumor that Owen Wilson’s Mobius may be showing up in Deadpool 3 gets fans thinking there may be a bit of time travel involved in the plot. And who is the master of time travel if not Kang the Conqueror? Some fans think that perhaps Deadpool won’t use Cable’s watch to do something so selfish as kill the X-Men Origins version of himself, but instead, he’ll use it to go after Kang.

Deadpool and Wolverine, two of Marvel’s most dangerous mutants, are teaming up to defeat Kang the Conqueror. And they’re going to win too! It’s a perfectly reasonable premise. Deadpool and Wolverine travel through time to hunt for Kang, so Kang sends Mobius and the TVA after them to watch his back. After they make it through, they finally get to Kang, the head of an evil TVA. After an incredible MCU fight, they defeat Kang but discover it’s just one of his many variants throughout the multiverse. Deadpool and Wolverine have a chance to kill Marvel’s most prominent villain and end the Multiverse Saga before it begins. But in true Deadpool form, he won’t affect the big picture.

Though no official sources have confirmed it, the talk around town is that Mobius will appear in Deadpool 3. It’s what the fans want, and the news nearly blew up the internet when it was first dropped. But this particular fan theory makes Owen Wilson’s character the villain.

Fans think that after the events of Loki, the Mobius that we saw in the last scene of the series was working for an evil TVA designed to be a time-traveling army spearheaded by Kang the Conqueror. This would put Mobius on the wrong side of history, so to speak, and make him one of Kang’s protectors instead of a free-thinking variant that owns a jet ski.

Deadpool might start the movie looking to travel back in time to erase his poor performances from the Fox universe, but that may just be where he meets Wolverine. Once Deadpool gets Wolverine to follow him outside his proper Fox continuity and into the MCU, Mobius would show up, trying to prune the timeline and keep Wolverine where he should be. When Deadpool learns about Mobius, he learns about Kang, which motivates the two mutants to go after the MCU’s main villain.

Mobius might be a lower-tier villain the heroes must fight through to get to the big baddie. Or Mobius could be the guy that successfully prevents Deadpool from ever getting to Kang. But if Deadpool uses Cable’s watch to take Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine out of his timeline, you can bet the TVA will be on it.

If Deadpool gets caught by the TVA, that will open up his traveling options. Cable’s watch is an impressive time-traveling machine, but, likely, it can only travel along Cable’s time stream. If Deadpool can make it into the TVA, he’ll have access to technology that can transport him across the multiverse. Or even easier than that, if Deadpool gets pruned, he could get sent to some kind of extradimensional plane with access to Kang like we saw in the first season of Loki.

When Deadpool discovers Kang through the TVA and sees the multiversal mess he’s up to, he’ll try to defeat him to save the Marvel universe or even to prevent his own death or imprisonment. Of course, it’s always possible that Wolverine will be the one who needs to save the Marvel universe, and Deadpool will just want the glory.

Either way, Kang would never be able to defeat Marvel’s two most regenerative superheroes in a battle across time. But once they win, they discover that the Kang they conquered was only one of many in the multiverse. It could be a good setup for Kang Dynasty or even a movie about Chronopolis, where tons of Kangs have gathered to work together to conquer the universe.

Remember, Deadpool 3 is still a long way off. Currently, the movie is the first one in Phase 6, so we still have all of Phase 5 to get through. By that time, Deadpool may already be aware of Kang’s existence in the MCU. At the moment, we’ve only really seen him in Loki. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will be his first big break onto the scene as a Marvel’s long-term supervillain. Season 2 of Loki will have premiered already, giving us a big update on Mobius and the TVA. And Captain America: New World Order is sure to shake things up for the MCU in 2024.

So a lot can change between now and Deadpool 3, but still, it's fun to dream.
