X-Men star Hugh Jackman has revealed several details regarding how he plans to get back into Wolverine-esque shape for his return in Deadpool 3. And his plans largely consist of eating copious amounts of food. Appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jackman explained how he is gradually working his way towards devouring 6,000 calories a day (the recommended daily calorie intake is 2,500) and is currently at a measly 4,500. Unfortunately for Jackman, the bulking has already caused problems for the costume designers working with him on the Broadway show, The Music Man.

"It's 6,000 calories. About 6,000 calories a day. I think at the moment, I'm building up, at about 4,000-5,000 calories. I wore a heart rate monitor as Harold Hill. So, my trainer said I need to know what I'm working with here, because I'm trying to bulk up. So, I burn 1,500 calories during the show, eight times a week. She said, you got to eat!"

Jackman’s commitment to getting into superhero shape and bringing Wolverine to life on the big screen is now well-established, and it sounds like the actor is just as determined as he ever was to doing the character justice.

While it had been assumed, and stated by the actor himself, that 2017’s Logan would be Hugh Jackman’s final time as Wolverine, this is no longer case, with Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds taking to social media back in September to reveal that Deadpool 3 will center on a Wade Wilson/Logan team-up. All while leaving the events of Logan well alone.

Deadpool 3 is Expected to Find Wade Wilson & Logan on a Road Trip

While plot details for Deadpool 3 remain a mystery at this stage, it is expected that the sequel will find Wade and Logan embarking on a road trip together. Reynolds took to social media back in 2021 to reveal the idea he had in mind for the Deadpool threequel saying, “It’s critical to have open, honest and healthy discussions around mental health. By retweeting #BellLetsTalk you can make a difference. In case that’s not enough, before Disney bought Fox, Deadpool 3 was gonna be a road trip between Deadpool and Logan. Rashomon style. For real.”

Though this is currently unconfirmed, it’s too good an idea to pass up, with the confines of a car giving Deadpool plenty of time to irritate Wolverine. But what is it that will send the pair off on a road trip? Well, some have theorized that Deadpool 3 will find Wade and Logan attempting to escape the Fox universe and make their way into the MCU. A meta-approach that would suit Deadpool perfectly.

For now, Jackman has a lot on his plate, both figuratively and literally, as he works hard to ensure that the triumphant return of Wolverine lives up to the overwhelming hype.

Directed by Shawn Levy and written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, Deadpool 3 is now scheduled to be released on November 8, 2024.
