Thanks to the merger of Disney and Fox, during which the former studio continues to consume everything like an Akira-esque mass, beloved Marvel antihero Deadpool will now join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While not much is known about how exactly this will happen, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has now described Deadpool 3 as a “big swing” before further commenting on welcoming the Merc with a Mouth into the franchise. You can see what Feige said to The Hollywood Reporter below.

“How do we elevate it in the way we’ve been able to with Civil War, and Infinity War and Ragnarok? It’s very fun to be in the world of the Ryan Reynolds show.”

So, it certainly sounds like Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios are aiming high with Deadpool 3, with the Marvel boss name-dropping the likes of Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Thor: Ragnarok as a desired comparison. Each of these brought major changes to the MCU. Captain America: Civil War with splitting the heroes, Avengers: Infinity War with killing off a huge swathe of characters and leading into Avengers: Endgame, and finally Thor: Ragnarok wiping out Asgard and finding Thor emerging as a more comical character.

Based on Feige’s intentions and his glee over working alongside Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds, we can expect Deadpool 3 to make a serious impression on the MCU when it does eventually hit theaters.

Almost nothing is known about what direction Deadpool 3 will take, but the character will presumably make his way into the MCU. Somehow. The sequel will see Ryan Reynolds return to the title role, with the actor reuniting with Free Guy and The Adam Project director Shawn Levy. The threequel is currently being written by Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

Reese has teased the story for Deadpool 3 saying, “It’s a wonderful opportunity for fish-out-of-water. Deadpool is a lunatic at the center of a movie. To drop a lunatic into a very sane world, it’s straight butter. It’s going to be really fun.”

The writing duo has also revealed that, despite Deadpool 3 falling under the Disney umbrella, the family-friendly studio has allowed the character to continue his R-rated antics unencumbered. "It's almost like putting on a comfy old sweater. Marvel's really given us the support to maintain the tone and the vision that we have for it,” the writers said. “They've been very hands-off and supportive, but they've also let us do what we do. So really, it's just been fun. We're mad scientists back in the laboratory again. Deadpool is our favorite who will always be the character I think we're most associated with, and we're very grateful for being allowed to write him again. So it's a blast. It's like going back to school again after having summer off. It's pretty fun."

Deadpool 3 has not yet been given a release date, but Ryan Reynolds has promised updates soon.
