The first two Deadpool films have been strictly R-rated movies, with heavy profanity, violence, and everything else under the sun. Of course, this is a stark contrast to the primarily family-friendly MCU films, which have graced the big screen since 2008. That's why the 2019 $71.3 billion mergers between 20th Century Fox and Disney scared fans of Ryan Reynold's character. Deadpool is based on his crude, irreverent, no-holds-barred humor, and audiences didn't want that to change with Deadpool 3 if it ever reached the light of day.

In 2020, Marvel confirmed that the development of the third film is underway, to the excitement and hesitation of some fans. A few months later, Kevin Feige would confirm Deadpool 3's R-rating, staying in line with the previous films and the character's personality. In an interview with DiscussingFilm, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, writers of the trilogy, share their thoughts on working under the new regime and their excitement for Deadpool 3.

"It's almost like putting on a comfy old sweater. Marvel's really given us the support to maintain the tone and the vision that we have for it. They've been very hands-off and supportive, but they've also let us do what we do. So really, it's just been fun. We're mad scientists back in the laboratory again. Deadpool is our favorite who will always be the character I think we're most associated with, and we're very grateful for being allowed to write him again. So it's a blast. It's like going back to school again after having summer off. It's pretty fun."

Fans of the franchise will be delighted to hear the news straight from the writer's mouth. If anyone understands the character's nuances, it's Reese and Wernick, who seem to approve of the Marvel acquisition. But, of course, we will have to wait for the release of Deadpool 3 to see if the character is genuinely kept intact.

Ryan Reynolds has kept busy the last few years, starring in several major films. In 2021 the actor played the lead role in Free Guy, the Grand Theft Auto-inspired movie, following an NPC who realizes his world is inside a video game. That same year he would star in the Netflix film Red Notice, a massive success for the streaming service. The movie featured Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot alongside Reynolds and broke the opening day record when it was released in 2021.

Earlier this year, Reynolds starred in The Adam Project, another Netflix feature film, alongside co-stars Mark Ruffalo, Walker Scobell, and Jennifer Garner. In addition, Reynolds is rumored to star in a future adaptation of Clue, written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. When DiscussingFilm asked about the progress of the upcoming movie, the writers said it's "bumping forward."

"We've written a draft of Clue, and it's still in development over at Fox [20th Century Studios]. So it's sort of bumping forward, whether it becomes a movie or not is generally in the hands of the movie Gods and not ourselves. So we did our best on it. We're proud of it."

No official information has been given regarding Clue, so for now, fans will have to wait and see what becomes of the film. Unfortunately, for fans of Deadpool, it may be a while before the next movie's release. However, audiences can remain excited that Reese and Wernick have faith in the third film.
