Deadpool fans everywhere are eagerly awaiting more details of the Merc with a Mouth’s MCU debut soon, and while Ryan Reynolds has teased more information coming it soon, it looks like audiences aren’t the only ones in the dark about the sequel. As gears slowly turn on the third movie in the Deadpool franchise, and the first under Marvel Studios’ banner, it seems that actress Morena Baccarin, who plays Vanessa Carlysle in the movies, hasn’t heard anything about whether she will be in the film yet.

Baccarin seems certain to be returning to her role as the girlfriend of Wade Wilson, despite her character being killed off in Deadpool 2, until, that is, in one of the many post-credit scenes that involved Deadpool skipping around righting wrongs of the past, she had her death retconned and was given the prospect of a better story next time around. Of course, her reduced screen time in the sequel was also in part to her being a “regular girlfriend,” meaning that once the crazy action sequences kick in, her lack of superpowers makes her a little redundant.

With her death undone, there is no doubt that Vanessa Carlysle will feature in Deadpool 3, and although Baccarin told SYFY WIRE that she doesn’t know anything at this time, she seemed optimistic that the call will be coming. She said, “I haven’t gotten that phone call yet, but maybe soon.” For now, that means the actress is still, like the rest of us, awaiting word from Reynolds and director Shawn Levy for news on what the future holds.

Deadpool 3 Will Be An Important Step in the MCU Ladder

Deadpool 3 was originally discussed when the franchise was owned by Fox. Following their merger with Disney, the future for Reynold’s foul-mouthed, violent Marvel character was on shaky ground, with many rumors circulating that the film either wouldn’t go ahead or would see Deadpool reduced to a PG-13 family affair. This is something no one wanted, and that became apparent when Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige reassured everyone that Deadpool would be joining the MCU, but he would also be remaining very R-rated in his next movie outing.

So with Deadpool 3 a-go, that should have meant work on the development of the film charged ahead at a pace. Once again though, that is not exactly how things have gone. Disney has had to spend time working out exactly what they want to do with Deadpool, Reynolds took a sabbatical from acting and work in Hollywood in general, and while scripting on the new movie does seem to have been moving along slowly, there still seems some way to go before we finally see Deadpool return to the big screen. Unless, of course, he does have one of the many rumored cameos in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in May.

Whenever we see Deadpool make his true MCU debut, it is more than likely he will want to bring as many familiar faces with him as possible, and it seems like there was no point featuring a post-credit scene in which Wilson’s girlfriend had her life restored unless it would be carried over in the net film. For that reason, Baccarin’s belief that the call will come soon seems a pretty solid assumption to make when it comes to the inclusion of Vanessa Carlysle in the future of Deadpool.
