Deadpool is on the hunt for it's female lead. It's being reported that Fox has lined up four actresses for the job, with test deals in place. The Marvel adventure stars Ryan Reynolds and will be directed by Tim Miller, who is best known for his VFX work. The movie has been in the planning stages for a number of years, and finally got the green light from Fox after test footage leaked on the internet. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are writing the screenplay.
Morena Baccarin is the first of two actresses believed to be the frontrunners for the role. She recently starred as the long-tormented wife of POW-turned-terrorist Brody on Showtime's Homeland. Genre fans know her for her work in the short-lived V reboot, and she has a recurring arc on Gotham. Next in line is Taylor Schilling, star of Netflix's breakout series Orange Is the New Black. The other two actresses mentioned for the role, which has not been disclosed, are Crystal Reed, known for her role on Teen Wolf, and Rebecca Rittenhouse, who gained quite a following for her Fox series Red Band Society.
Deadline claims that there are other actresses also in the mix, but their names have not been revealed. Deadpool revolves around a mercenary with the ability to heal quickly, making him nearly indestructible. He was first introduced in the 2009 movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Production is set to begin in March, with a February 2016 release date already locked in place.
