The official trailer has been released for Deadstream, a new found footage horror-comedy film heading to Shudder next month. In the film, an influencer goes to great lengths to increase his following by livestreaming his stay in a home that's supposedly haunted. Of course, he finds out first-hand that maybe there's something to those claims. You can watch the trailer below ahead of the movie's arrival on Shudder on Oct. 6, 2022.

Deadstream marks the feature directorial debut from Joseph and Vanessa Winter (V/H/S/99). The husband-and-wife filmmaking duo also co-wrote the film, which premiered earlier this year at the 2022 South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival, garnering great acclaim from audiences and critics. The Winters also produced the film alongside cinematographer Jared Cook and actress Melanie Stone. Jason K. Wixom also stars.

You can read the synopsis for Deadstream, described as "as frightening as it is funny," below.

Deadstream follows a disgraced internet personality who attempts to win back his followers by livestreaming one night alone in a haunted house. But when he accidentally pisses off a vengeful spirit, his big comeback event becomes a real-time fight for his life.

YouTube Controversy Inspired Deadstream

"There was this big controversy with PewDiePie a few years ago, and some other YouTubers around the exact same time, and when that happened, we started thinking that maybe that is something that could be tied into this character of Shawn, where maybe he's trying to recover from this big controversy," star and co-director Joseph Winter told DailyDead about crafting the film's story. "So, that started to inform the character. Then, we started deep diving into these existing YouTubers and trying to figure out their quirks and their personalities, and we realized, once you start watching these guys, they're legitimately good artists at what they do. Their content is actually pretty good, and there's a reason why people like them. So, it became important to us to not just parody an influencer, but actually try to give Shawn some real depth that would make you believe that somebody in the world would actually watch this person. So, it was important throughout the script that we really tried to make him feel like a real influencer."

On choosing the house featured in the movie as the perfect shooting location, Vanessa Winter added, "Yeah, the house just had so much character. Not only was it beat to hell, but the wallpaper and tagging brought a lot of color to the movie, which I think helped not only become a character of its own, but also made the wacky creatures feel more at home. And props to our production designer [Amy Leah Nelson Smith], because she really went with just embracing the color and textures. I think it brought a lot to the table."

Deadstream will premiere on Shudder US, Shudda CA, Shudder UKI, and Shudder ANZ on Oct. 6, 2022. The film is unrated and spans 87 minutes long.
