Miss Bala director Gerardo Naranjo is in negotiations to direct Paramount and MGM's Death Wish remake.

Joe Carnahan was previously attached to direct, before he dropped out last month over a casting dispute. Both studios wanted to cast Bruce Willis for the lead, but Joe Carnahan had a different casting approach. Now that the studios have found a director, it isn't known if they still intend on bringing Bruce Willis aboard.

The original 1974 Death Wish starred Charles Bronson as an ordinary man who becomes a dangerous vigilante after his wife is killed by street thugs, who also raped his daughter. Joe Carnahan also wrote the screenplay, but now that he is off the project, it isn't known if Paramount and MGM are looking for a new writer, or if they plan on using the former director's draft. No production schedule was given.

The director also has The Mountain Between Us in development at Fox, which has Michael Fassbender attached to star. Gerardo Naranjo also directed the pilot episode of FX's new series The Bridge, which was given a series order last month.
