New casting information for The Munsters has just been revealed. Now in development from writer-director Rob Zombie, The Munsters reimagines the monster sitcom family with an all-new cast, but in a way that pays tribute to the original. Several familiar stars have already been announced for the cast, and Zombie has just divulged with a new Instagram post that genre icon Dee Wallace (E.T., Cujo, The Howling, 13 Fanboy) has just been cast for a voice role in the feature. You can see the announcement below.

Zombie has worked with Wallace on several occasions, as she had roles in his previous films Halloween, The Lords of Salem, The Haunted World of El Superbeasto, and 3 from Hell. In the caption of his new Instagram post, Zombie writes:

"ATTENTION! MUNSTERS CASTING NEWS! Our good friend DEE WALLACE has joined the cast of THE MUNSTERS! Dee is the voice of GOOD MORNING TRANSYLVANIA! 2nd favorite morning show… soon slipping to 3rd if they don’t update their format. Dee is a Zombie regular appearing in Halloween, The Haunted World of El Superbeasto, The Lords of Salem and most recently 3 From Hell."

Leading the cast as the main stars are Jeff Daniel Phillips as Herman, Sheri Moon Zombie as Lily, and Daniel Roebuck as Grandpa. Also starring are Richard Brake as Dr. Henry Augustus Wolfgang, Sylvester McCoy as Igor, Jorge Garcia as Floop, Catherine Schell as Zoya Krupp, and Cassandra "Elvira" Peterson as Barbara Carr. As we can see, more casting announcements are still coming out, so there may be more to be revealed yet by Zombie, such as who may be playing Eddie and Marilyn.

The Munsters Will Be Rated PG

Rob Zombie might be bringing back many of the actors who have appeared in his violent films to play new characters in The Munsters, but that doesn't mean this movie will have the same tone. It will serve as the first PG-rated movie for Zombie, who has chosen to keep his take on The Munsters family-friendly in the spirit of the original sitcom. It's not where Zombie has his experience, given his work with some of the most shocking and violent horror movies of the past two decades, but he does come into the adaptation as a lifelong fan of the franchise.

Originally, The Munsters aired on television in the 1960s as a comedy series with an unforgettable cast, all working together to help make the show one of television's most popular sitcoms ever made. It has inspired various reboots over the years, both in film and on television, but many fans still hold the most esteem for the original series. Zombie will be paying tribute to the series with plenty of Easter eggs and references, along with great efforts to recreate the sets exactly as they appeared before, but time will tell how it's all received by fans.

The Munsters doesn't have an official release date but is expected to arrive sometime in 2022. The rumor is that the film will have a day-and-date release by screening in theaters and on NBCUniversal's streaming service Peacock.
