Variety reports that bestselling author Dennis Lehane is set to make his big-screen writing bow by adapting his own short story "Animal Rescue" for Fox 2000.

Lehane's novels have grabbed such A-list directors as Clint Eastwood (Mystic River) and Martin Scorsese (Shutter Island).

Lehane has written for the small screen penning scripts for HBO's The Wire.

"Animal Rescue" focuses on a killing that results from a lost and contested pit bull.

Another Lehane novel "The Given Day" is going to be directed by Sam Raimi for Columbia Pictures.
