Universal Pictures has optioned the action spec script Desert Eagle, written by Tyrese Gibson and Mike Le, with Tyrese Gibson attached to star. This action-thriller has been in the works for several years, with Tyrese Gibson briefly mentioning the project during our visit to the set of Legion way back in 2008. The actor/screenwriter will also serve as an executive producer, with Matthew Stuecken and Josh Campbell (The Cellar) signing on to rewrite the script.

The story centers on two border patrol agents who investigate a drug cartel operating on a Native American casino. Scott Stuber is producing through his Bluegrass Films banner, while Tyrese Gibson serves as an executive producer through his Voltron Filmz company. Mike Le wrote the Black List script Patient Zero, which is currently in the works at Screen Gems with Natalie Dormer and Matt Smith currently attached to star.

Tyrese Gibson last starred in Fast & Furious 6, and he will reprise his role as Roman Pierce in this year's Furious 7. He is also releasing his final album as a musician, Black Rose, which debuts on May 5. The actor has also been campaigning to play Jon Stewart in Warner Bros.' Green Lantern superhero reboot. No production schedule was given for Desert Eagle at this time.
