Nothing defines modern children's animation like tiny, yellow, pill-shaped bodies with varying eye numbers and cute blue overalls. Despicable Me is a children's animated movie franchise that came out with its first film in 2010. Since then, people of all ages have become fans of characters like Gru and all the Minions. In fact, the Minions are an entire entity in themselves (via New York Times). The little creatures speak complete gibberish, sometimes Spanish, and other languages jumbled up, but children, and even adults, eat it up.

The Minions are a loyal bunch to Gru, and with an army like that, what’s not to love? Despicable Me’s story was warm, heartfelt, and packed full of action. The movies had their bright spots, but none shined quite like the Minions. They were responsible for so much innocent comedy, character, and nonsense. Even though there are many of the little guys running around, some have a special place in our hearts. If you are a fan of the Despicable Me franchise, make sure you check out our ranking of the best Minions from the movies.

7 Carl

CarlMinion (1)
Illumination

Carl is a charming little Minion. Many of the little guys have singular moments that stick in our minds when we think about the Minions. Carl, in fact, has one very memorable line in the Despicable Me movies. He comes into the room wearing a siren, saying "bee-do" through a megaphone. Well, at the moment, it was just as annoying as it was cute, and he was instantly shut down by being sprayed with a fire extinguisher.

6 Jorge

JorgeMinion (1)
Illumination

The Minion named Jorge happens to be the main subject of one of the most iconic Minion moments ever. Jorge is a wider-set Minion, with hair that sticks straight up and two very lovely eyes. The Minions with Gru are hilarious. However, the Minions alone? Unmatched. Jorge's defining moment in the entire Despicable Me franchise was when he sat down, bare-butt, on a scanner in order to photocopy his own bottom. The moment was charming, funny, and fit perfectly into what we would categorize as peak Minion nonsense.

5 Dave

DaveMinion (1)
Illumination

The names of all of these Minions are so ordinary in comparison to their out-of-this-world personalities. Along with being uncontrollably erratic and childish, the Minions are completely loyal to Gru. For example, we have Dave. Dave has two striking eyes and the most stunning middle part we've ever seen. He is best known in the Despicable Me franchise for his role in disguising himself as an evil Minion. You know, the purple deranged-looking ones with wild hair? Per Gru's request, Dave was one of the sacrificial lambs in this scenario, and the entire scene was just as chaotic as you can imagine.

4 Phil

PhilMinion (1)
Illumination

We cannot rank the best Minions without mentioning Phil. Phil and his spiky hair do not get an incredible amount of screen time throughout the Despicable Me movies. However, his presence is definitely felt. Phil is best known for his iconic maid outfit. There are few moments in minion history that burn pictures into our minds as this one did — looking this fabulous deserves an award in itself.

3 Stuart

StuartMinion (1)
Illumination

Drum roll please for the main trio! Stuart, alongside both Kevin and Bob, these guys are the main squad of minions in the Despicable Me/Minions franchise. Stuart has his iconic single eye on everything. He is involved in most of what the minions are up to and how they contribute to the main plot of the movies. To name of few of his on-screen contributions, Stuart is the one to sprayed Carl with the fire extinguisher, he flirted with a fire hydrant, and he was used as a minion glow stick.

2 Kevin

KevinMinion (1)
Illumination

We all know and love Kevin. Kevin, among the sea of yellow, is an eye-catcher because of his height. Kevin is a taller two-eyed Minion, with a little sprout of hair right in the middle of his head. Kevin is part of the main trio and an easy fan favorite of the Despicable Me franchise. As much as Kevin is an integral part of the Minion army and a great leader, he does get kidnapped by Dr. Nefario at one point and becomes an evil purple minion himself.

1 Bob

BobMinion (1)
Illumination

When audiences think about the Minions, the cuter they are, the more memorable. Well, in the main trio of Minions, no one is cuter than Bob. Bob is the shorter two-eyed stubby little minion with no hair whatsoever next to Kevin and Stuart. He is involved in many of the main shenanigans in the Despicable Me movies and with a simple name like Bob, he is easily recognizable by fans. Also, his differently-colored eyes (green and brown) are a staple, and paired with his childish demeanor and humor, Bob is easily one of the top minions in this franchise.
