The finale of Dexter: New Blood left many viewers feeling shocked, and after completing the season, some fans are already hoping for more episodes to see what happens next. As it stands now, there are no plans at Showtime to produce additional seasons as New Blood was developed as a limited series. Of course, a positive response to the show could always help convince the cabler to move forward with a continuation.

Speaking about the revival series with Collider, showrunner Clyde Phillips provided an optimistic response when asked about the future of Dexter: New Blood. He says how it's not up to him whatsoever, as this is an internal decision that will have to come from Showtime. The good news is that Phillips is definitely making it clear that he's happy to go on should the cabler decide to move forward with more episodes.

"Well, it is really Showtime's call," Phillips says. "And speaking of calls, if they were to call me and say, 'Look, this is a huge asset for Showtime.' I think, and I underline the word think, I think Dexter is their number one asset. If they were to call me and say, 'We want to do Harrison. Are you interested?' Much like when they called me to say, 'We want to reboot Dexter, and you're the guy,' I would drop everything to do it."

He added, "I mean, the show's hugely successful for them this season. And we're going to be getting some big numbers in January and all the people that DVR-ing the show so they can binge it. We're going to get a whole new set of numbers later in this month. And I think that could well be determinative in Showtime's decision. And if they want to do it, again, I got a lot of stuff going on, and I'll drop everything to do it."

The ending of the original Dexter series was not exactly well-received by fans. One of the reasons those involved were so eager to do New Blood was to give the story another chapter, allowing them to deliver a more satisfying conclusion. This revival could serve as a better ending than what fans were given before, and as Phillips says, the plan all along was to get to this particular endgame.

Dexter: New Blood brings back Michael C. Hall to reprise the role he starred in during the original show. Jennifer Carpenter also returned with newcomers to the cast including Jack Alcott, Julia Jones, Johnny Sequoyah, Alano Miller, and Clancy Brown. It picks up ten years after the events of the original with Dexter living in a new town under a new name after faking his death, where he reunites with his mysterious, estranged son.

Time will tell if more episodes of Dexter: New Blood ever happen. Fans for now can check out the entire season of the revival series streaming on the Showtime app.
