Variety reports that Diablo Cody is going to write and produce an adaptation of the Sweet Valley High book series for Universal.

Universal outbidded Fox for the project. The studio is currently negotiating to pick up the film rights to the book series that was created by Francine Pascal. It was published by Random House.

Sweet Valley High takes us into the lives of identical twins Elizabeth and Jessica. While they may look alike, they act completely different. They live in the fictional town of Sweet Valley. Over 150 books were written between 1983 and 2003. The original TV series had 88 episodes between 1994 and 1997.
