In a story from Variety, Diane Lane will be starring in Disney's Secretariat.

The film follows the relationship between the 1973 Triple Crown-winning racehorse and Penny Chenery (Lane), the horses owner.

Randall Wallace will be directing the film. The screenplay was written by Mike Rich.

Chenery, was a mother and housewife who didn't know anything about horse racing when she started to run her sick father's farm in Virginia. When she became the "first lady of racing" that surprised a lot of people.

Just as Secretariat, in the early years, started to show potential, Chenery had to sell him and all she owned when her father died and she was hit with a bunch of inheritance taxes.
