Bruce Willis confirmed just this past February that Die Hard 6 is definitely still happening. Now the project is chugging forward at a faster rate, with 20th Century Fox bringing on new writers. The studio has hired Chad Hayes and Carey Hayes, the sibling scribe team best known for their work on The Conjuring franchise. They will rewrite the Die Hard 6 script. Len Wiseman is still attached to direct this action sequel, and also serve as a producer alongside Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

Die Hard 6 will bring back Bruce Willis, reprising his iconic role as New York cop John McClane, but the story will actually focus on a much younger John McClane as a NYPD cop in the 1970s. Bruce Willis is expected to appear in present-day scenes that will bookend the movie, that will shift back and forth between present-day and the 1970s. While Bruce Willis was originally expected to make just a cameo in the movie, he's expected to have a much more substantial role, although story specifics remain vague at this time.

Director Len Wiseman revealed in September that they are actively searching for an actor to play the young John McClane, adding that the right casting is "crucial." Still, there have been no updates on casting since then, and there is no indication as to when this extensive casting search may be complete. There is also no word yet on when production may begin, or when 20th Century Fox may be eyeing to release this sequel.

This project will mark Len Wiseman's first feature directorial effort in six years, since his work on Sony's Total Recall remake in 2012. He has been keeping busy on the small screen though, directing pilot episodes for a number of different Fox shows, including Sleepy Hollow, which he also created, Lucifer, APB and this year's X-Men series The Gifted. He also serves as an executive producer on all of those shows, along with the 2016 movie Underworld: Blood Wars. He is currently working on two separate movie-to-TV adaptations, with a new Underworld series and Sin City as well. He is no stranger to the Die Hard franchise either, having directed 2007's Live Free or Die Hard.

Chad Hayes and Carey Hayes spent their first writing years switching between movies and TV, with their first film The Dark Side of the Moon and their first TV gig, writing an episode of Booker, debuting in the same year, 1990. They would go on to write for shows such as the original incarnation of The Flash, Diagnosis Murder, Baywatch Nights, Baywatch, Beastmaster, and a number of TV movies before jumping back to features with House of Wax in 2005. They would go on to write The Reaping and Whiteout before writing The Conjuring in 2013 and The Conjuring 2 in 2016. They also wrote last year's The Crucifixion and the upcoming movie The Turning starring Mackenzie Davis and Finn Wolfhard, which is currently in production. The Tracking Board broke the news on these new Die Hard 6 writers.
