According to Variety, Dimension Films has acquired from Steve Bing's Shangri-La Entertainment the cutting-edge teen comedy Youth in Revolt.

The deal comes with rights to the C.D. Payne novel as well as a script by Gustin Nash. Dimension topper Bob Weinstein plans to put the film into production next year.

The novel, a cult favorite, is the coming-of-age tale of a 16-year-old who keeps a journal of his dogged quest to lose his virginity.

The pic is described as a cross between American Pie and "Portnoy's Complaint," and is expected to carry an R rating for its depiction of sexual humor. Originally self-published, Payne's novel has been published in other countries, has been staged as a play and a radio broadcast and has several Web sites devoted to it.
