After landing on the short list earlier this month to direct Snow White and the Huntsman 2, Frank Darabont is now in negotiations to direct the sequel for Universal Pictures. However, it seems the title may need to be changed, since Kristen Stewart may not be returning.

Deadline reports that Universal Pictures sparked to Frank Darabont's pitch that revolves almost exclusively around Chris Hemsworth's Huntsman character.

The studio is now considering the project a spin-off instead of a sequel, although it hasn't been confirmed one way or another if Kristen Stewart will be coming back as Snow White. Back in December 2012, Kristen Stewart said she was returning, but that was long before Frank Darabont entered the picture. If this does turn out to be a true spin-off, it could certainly keep the door open for Kristen Stewart to reprise her role as Snow White.

Frank Darabont beat out Gavin O'Connor (Warrior) and Andres Muschietti (Mama) for the directing gig, and he will be working from a script by David Koepp. Frank Darabont's last feature film was Stephen King's The Mist in 2007, but he has been keeping plenty busy on the small screen, creating AMC's hit zombie series The Walking Dead and TNT's Mob City.
