Director, Ari Aster, is bringing in an incredible cast for his next film, Disappointment Blvd. In addition to Joaquin Phoenix, Broadway superstars Nathan Lane and Patti LuPone will be joining the cast, along with Amy Ryan and Kylie Rogers. Aster's next film will also be produced and financed by A24. Aster will be the writer and director for this upcoming flick, along with co-producing the film with Lars Knudsen producing under their Square Peg banner.

Ari Aster previously worked with A24 on his last two films Hereditary and Midsommar. Both films became modern horror classics with both critics and filmgoers alike. The two films also performed well at the box office with Hereditary making $44 million domestically and Midsommar making slightly under $30 million. Aster has now become a favorite of many in the horror movie community.

Not much is known about Disappointment Blvd. thus far, however, the plot is described as "an intimate, decades-spanning portrait of one of the most successful entrepreneurs of all time," according to Deadline. In July 2020, in an interview at UC Santa Barbara, Aster said that his next movie is going to be a "nightmare comedy." He also mentioned that he is planning on it being "four hours long."

It is also unknown when the film is going to go into production. According to Deadline, there is no confirmed time for production but "it is very likely that Phoenix will shoot this before the Ridley Scott pic, Kitbag, where Phoenix will play Napoleon Bonaparte. Scott is currently prepping his crime thriller, Gucci, making Kitbag's production more likely for top of 2022."

This would make Disappointment Blvd Phoenix's first role since he won the Academy Award for Best Actor for Joker. Before the Oscars, Phoenix wrapped production on Mike Mill's latest movie, C'mon C'mon, which is also backed by A24.

Lane is currently in a few TV shows including Showtime's Penny Dreadful: City of Angels and the upcoming Hulu series, Only Murders in the Building. Lane may be best known for his role as Max Bialystock in The Producers and as the voice of Timon in The Lion King. LuPone continues to remain busy on stage, starring in the Broadway revival of Company and also appearing in Ryan Murphy's Hollywood on Netflix.

It isn't clear yet if Aster is going to be returning to the horror genre, but the current cast lineup is certainly a talented one. Disappointment Blvd doesn't even have a release date yet so we may be waiting a while to see whatever Aster's twisted mind has come up with next. In the meantime, you can stream Aster's past work by streaming Hereditary on Hulu or Midsommar on Amazon Prime. This news comes to us from Deadline.
