Actor-director-producer James Franco has started production on his latest film The Disaster Artist, which will give fans a behind-the-scenes look at the production of Tommy Wiseau's The Room. Earlier today, James Franco, who will portray Tommy Wiseau himself and direct, shared the first photo from the set on his Facebook page. The actor is seen in costume alongside his brother, Dave Franco, who is playing The Room co-star Greg Sestero.

The Hollywood Reporter also reveals that Zac Efron has signed on for a cameo role as a drug dealer. The cast also includes Seth Rogen, who is producing through his Point Grey Pictures company, Ari Graynor, Jacki Weaver, Hannibal Buress, Andrew Santino, Josh Hutcherson and Kate Upton. The story will follow two outsiders with no filmmaking experience who embark on a journey to make their dreams come true.

The Disaster Artist is based on Greg Sestero and Tom Bissell's 2013 non-fiction book that chronicled the production of The Room, which is widely believed to be one of the worst movies of all time. Produced on a $6 million budget, The Room centers on Johnny (Tommy Wiseau), whose fiancee, Lisa (Juliette Danielle), cheats on him with his best friend, Mark (Greg Sestero). The film was only released in Southern California in 2003, and went on to achieve cult status in the years that followed, playing in regular rotation at midnight movie theaters around the world.

We first reported on The Disaster Room back in February 2014, when James Franco acquired the book rights and Ryan Moody came aboard to write the screenplay. James Franco and Seth Rogen are producing alongside Evan Goldberg, Vince Jolivette and Good Universe. New Line Cinema will distribute, but it isn't known if a release date has been set at this time.

While it's only a cameo, The Disaster Artist reunites Zac Efron with his Neighbors co-stars Dave Franco and Seth Rogen. While we wait for more updates from the set, take a look at the first photo from The Disaster Artist, featuring James Franco and Dave Franco.
