Dwayne Johnson is in talks to voice a key character in the upcoming Disney adventure Moana. The action icon will voice the Demigod Maui in this latest CG-animated princess fairy tale. The project is coming from The Little Mermaid team of Ron Clements and John Musker.

Dwayne Johnson's Maui will aid a young girl on her nautical quest, which is set in the ancient South Pacific world of Oceania. Moana is a born navigator who goes searching for the famed island, and her journey eventually teams her with the legendary demigod. Together, they traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, where they battle sea creatures, take in underwater worlds, and learn about ancient Polynesian folklore.

The role of Moana herself has not yet been cast. About the character, director John Musker had this to say:

"Moana is indomitable, passionate and a dreamer with a unique connection to the ocean itself. She's the kind of character we all root for, and we can't wait to introduce her to audiences."

Moana will serve as Dwayne Johnson's first animated voice role since 2009's Planet 51. The actor will next be seen reprising his role as Hobbs in Furious 7. He'll then take on an earthquake in the thriller San Andreas. He is also set to star as Black Adam in DC and Warner Bros.' Shazam!, which doesn't hit theaters until 2019.
