In a story from Variety, Disney is going to release producer Guillermo del Toro's Don't Be Afraid of the Dark on January 21 2011 via their subsidiary company Miramax.

Don't Be Afraid of the Dark is produced by Mark Johnson and del Toro.

Del Toro and Matthew Robbins wrote the adaptation of a 1973 ABC telepic, originally written by Nigel McKeand.

The film centers on a young girl, sent to live with her father and his new girlfriend, who discovers sinister creatures that live underneath the stairs.

Don't Be Afraid of the Dark is the first film to come out on the January 21-23 weekend.
