Disney has purchased the rights to Penny Chenery's life story. She was the owner of the 1973 Triple Crown winning horse Secretariat.
Mike Rich will write the script, which revolves around the "first lady of racing." According to Variety, Chenery owned a thoroughbred breeding business and introduced Secretariat to the world of horse racing. The dominant horse became the first Triple Crown winner in 25 years, taking the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes. In 1974, the horse was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and the Hall of Fame.
Secretariat is currently listed 35th on ESPN's 100 greatest athletes of the 20th century. The horse is only one of three nonhumans included on the list.
There is no word on when the film will go into production.
