Jeff Daniels has signed on to play the primary villain in the last two Divergent movies, The Divergent Series: Allegiant: Part 1 and The Divergent Series: Allegiant: Part 2. The actor is in final negotiations, with a deal about to close for him to play David, leader of the Bureau of Genetic Welfare. In the Veronica Roth novels, the Bureau of Genetic Welfare created the faction system that governs this post-apocalyptic society, with the reasoning behind the factions' creation eventually revealed to be quite evil in nature.

Shailene Woodley and Theo James will return as Tris and Four, with Naomi Watts also confirmed to star in both movies as Evelyn, the Factionless leader. Ansel Elgort (Caleb), Miles Teller (Peter), Zoë Kravitz (Christina) and Octavia Spencer (Johanna) are expected to reprise their roles from Divergent and last month's sequel The Divergent Series: Insurgent, but no other cast members have been set in place quite yet. It isn't known when production will begin on the two-part finale quite yet.

The Divergent Series: Insurgent director Robert Schwentke is returning to direct The Divergent Series: Allegiant: Part 1 from an adapted screenplay by Noah Oppenheim, but a writer and director hasn't been set for The Divergent Series: Allegiant: Part 2 quite yet. Jeff Daniels most recently starred in Dumb and Dumber To. He will next be seen in two high-profile projects later this year, Steve Jobs and The Martian.
