Screenwriter Akiva Goldsman will redraft the script for the Divergent sequel Insurgent. Brian Duffield (Jane Got a Gun) wrote the first draft of the screenplay, although it isn't known if Akiva Goldsman is simply doing a polish, or if he is starting from scratch.

Divergent, which hits theaters this March, is set in a world where young men and women must choose one of five distinct factions to spend the rest of their lives under. Shailene Woodley stars as Tris Prior, a young woman who learns she is a divergent, one that doesn't fit within any of the five factions. She must find out the truth behind why divergents are considered so dangerous, as a conspiracy unravels to kill these outcasts. Miles Teller, Kate Winslet, Theo James and Ansel Elgort co-star in the adaptation of Veronica Roth's novel.

Summit Entertainment confirmed last month that Divergent director Neil Burger will not be at the helm for Insurgent, since he will still be in post-production on the original film while the sequel gears up to start shooting this spring. The studio hasn't announced a replacement for Neil Burger yet.

Akiva Goldsman won an Academy Award for writing Best Picture winner A Beautiful Mind. He makes his directorial debut with the adaptation Winter's Tale, arriving in theaters on Valentine's Day.
