Director Sam Raimi has teased the extent of the deleted scenes from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness that have been left on the cutting room somewhere in Marvel Studios. And it sounds like there could be a lot of extra material. Speaking with Collider, Raimi revealed that the first cut of the Doctor Strange sequel clocked in at around two hours and 40 minutes, meaning there could be a whole lot of multiversal madness to explore when the MCU outing hits home release.

"Well, the first cut was I actually don't remember the length of it. It was probably like two hours and 40 minutes, and it slowly came down even though we did the reshoots. We took out material even though the reshoots went in. So, it slowly got down to about two hours and five minutes is the total.”

Of course, it is unlikely that we will ever see all of that deleted material, something with Sam Raimi admits. But with at least 35 minutes removed during production, it could certainly provide audiences with a lot more of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness to enjoy.

"I'm trying to remember what Marvel is including in the deleted scenes. It's really going to be their decision, but I know that there are at least two or three deleted scenes that will be included. I don't know the full extent of them though."

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is chock-full of surprises, crowd-pleasing cameos, and multiversal exploration, and it will be exciting to see what the removed material includes and how the Marvel movie perhaps could have been different before the reshoots.

Directed by Sam Raimi, written by Michael Waldron, and starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange, alongside Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Rachel McAdams, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness picks up not long after the events of the brilliant Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The movie finds Strange teaming up with several heroes, including America Chavez, Wanda Maximoff AKA The Scarlet Witch, Wong, and Christine Palmer, as they travel into the multiverse in order to stop it from collapsing. Along the way, Doctor Strange and his team will come face-to-face with several heroes and villains, both unfamiliar and oddly familiar, as well as variants of himself.

The reviews for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness are now in, with Marvel’s latest being met with generally positive reviews. Critics have heaped praise on the vision of Sam Raimi and the performances from Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen, though some did find fault with the way the movie is confined by the typical MCU trappings.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness premiered at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on May 2, 2022, and was released in the United States on May 6. The sequel is just one of several installments that make up Phase Four of the MCU, which includes Thor: Love and Thunder, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
