As we have seen in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the multiverse is something that can bring about thrilling and exciting crossovers that were previously impossible in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, it looks like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness may well be taking a leaf from that book with the recent round of reshoots that are wrapping up this week. According to new reports in The Hollywood Reporter, it looks like the Doctor Strange sequel may be adding new cameos in order to instigate a similar reaction that has seen Spider-Man: No Way Home open with one of the biggest weekend box offices ever despite cinemas still struggling with the ongoing Covid pandemic.

Doctor Stephen Strange is an integral part of the latest Spider-Man movie, as he attempts to aid Peter Parker in making the world forget who he is but instead ends up cracking open the multiverse in a big way. The fallout of his actions will be fully dealt with in May 2022 when Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness arrives in cinemas and it looks like the already stacked cast may be getting even larger thanks to suggestions that Marvel has been so pleased with how Spider-Man’s multiverse shenanigans have panned out that they want more of it featured in the Doctor Strange sequel.

Benedict Cumberbatch will be reprising his role as Doctor Stephen Strange again in the movie, and will be joined by WandaVision’s Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and original Doctor Strange stars Rachel McAdams, Chiwetal Ejiofor and Benedict Wong, as well as newcomer Xochitl Gomez as the multiverse superhero America Chavez, a.k.a. Miss America. However, the question now being asked is who else could be turning up to cause the Doctor some problems in his new adventure?

According to the THR report, the current run of reshoots have partly come about due to the events that happened in the Loki TV series, which ended with Loki and Silvie seeming to break the sacred timeline and bring about the start of the multiverse, and in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The crossing over of actors from Sony’s universe into the MCU has created an appetite for more multiverse chaos, and it appears that they decided to “have more fun” with the sequel and “include more cameos and character introductions.” As there is no further word on this at the moment, let the social media speculation begin.

Of course, there are many possibilities to consider in all this, but there are a few characters that would be more likely to feature than others. There have already been reports hinting that Loki (Tom Hiddleston) could appear in the sequel, and others have hinted that Jonathan Majors could be seen as Kang the Conqueror in some capacity before his big bad appearance in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in 2023 and it would be foolish to discount his presence in a movie that specifically deals with the multiverse.

Of course, when discussing introductions, there are many other characters who could be pulled into brief cameo appearances with the Fantastic Four and X-Men set to arrive in the MCU in the coming years, but there has been no word yet on any casting for those projects which would either mean that someone has been keeping secrets or the cameos are not that big. I wouldn’t like to bet money on which of those is true, but what is certain is that the multiverse has reinvigorated the MCU again and there is a long way for this story to run.
