As Sunday’s Super Bowl delivered its thrills on the pitch, Marvel fans were given a completely different rollercoaster ride with the arrival of a new trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. In addition to the trailer, which revealed a number of new details about the movie, a brand new poster for the film has suggested that Strange Supreme will not be the only What If…? character making a live-action debut in the May 6th release.
The latest poster for the Doctor Strange sequel has the sorcerer shattering the window of the Sanctum Sanctorum with his latest misguided spell, and each fragment holds a piece of a puzzle that we are still over two months away from seeing put together in a cohesive way. Among the shards can be seen the faces of Wanda Maximoff, multiple versions of Strange including Defender Strange and Strange Supreme, America Chavez, Wong and Mordo, but there are also slivers including the shield of Captain Carter and the Marvel Zombies.
While it has been teased that What If…? could see some of its variant characters getting their own series or movies in the future, among the many rumors of who may or may not be getting a cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it was not expected that so many of them would potentially be from last year’s animated show. With Strange Supreme already confirmed from the trailer footage, and Marvel Zombies being teased last year among the upcoming Disney+ projects in the works, it looks like What If...?, a series that started off as completely unconnected to the MCU timeline, is about to become very relevant indeed.
Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness Will Cross Universes and Franchises.
It has been made clear from promotional material that the Doctor Strange sequel is going to bring the multiverse to fore of the MCU in a way that makes Spider-Man: No Way Home look like a very small appetizer on a very large plate. Since the first trailer for the movie arrived there have been an innumerable amount of suggestions of who could be brought into the MCU via the multiverse. In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Strange said that the multiverse is something that little is known about, and that means the rule book goes out of the window when reality is broken and the unknown beyond comes flooding through.
Suggestions have ranged from a first glimpse of the X-Men or Fantastic Four, a return for Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield as Spider-man, those grainy leaked shots claiming Tom Cruise has been recording scenes as an Iron Man variant and many more. With the trailer playing a “mystery voice” that sounds like it could only belong to Patrick Stewart’s Professor X saying, “We should tell him the truth,” it sounds like Loki’s encounter with the TVA was only a prelude to the mysterious figures hiding behind the scenes of the MCU timeline as we know it.
With a world of old characters to be reintroduced, new characters waiting in the wings and multiversal variants of every known superhero and villain to play with, it is growing more and more likely that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is going to be an MCU movie no one wants to miss.
