When Doctor Strange began shooting this past November in Nepal, we got a look at leading man Benedict Cumberbatch as he set out on his journey to find the Ancient One. Now, we have our official first look at the actor in his Marvel superhero costume. The image arrives courtesy of Entertainment Weekly. The Marvel Phase Three adventure will be the centerpiece of their latest upcoming issue.

Benedict Cumberbatch plays Dr. Stephen Strange in this mystical adventure, which features an ensemble cast including Tilda Swinton, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Michael Stuhlbarg, Amy Landecker, Scott Adkins and Mads Mikkelsen. Scott Derrickson, best known for such supernatural thrillers as Deliver Us from Evil and Sinister, is directing. The film wraps in March.

Benedict Cumberbatch graces the cover of this week's EW, with a photo that features the British actor trying on the Doctor Strange costume for one of the few first times. This is the so-called 'suit of armor' he will don after the self-entered surgeon transforms into the world-protecting sorcerer. Cumberbatch decided to use this particular photo shoot to develop and research some of the gesticulations that will be used as part of Strange's spell-casting regime. About the whole process of becoming Stephen Strange, the actor had this to say.

"I'm still in the infancy of learning all that. It was like, okay, I've got to keep throwing these poses, these spells, these rune-casting things, everything he does physically. I'm thinking, there's going to be a huge amount of speculation and intrigue over the positioning of that finger as opposed to it being there, or there. And I'm still working on that. We haven't played any of those scenes yet. I felt really self-conscious. But, then, by the end, it was great. It's like anything, you just have to experiment."

With three more months of shooting left, Marvel still hasn't revealed which characters Mads Mikkelsen and Rachel McAdams are playing just yet. But that will all be revealed when the latest issue of EW hits the newsstands later this week, where we'll learn if they fall on the side of good or evil. The magazine will also have an expose on the psychedelic visual effects being utilized in this decidedly different Marvel adventure. Says Cumberbatch.

"There's going to be crazy s- going on."

This issue of EW isn't just about Doctor Strange, either. They will be exploring Ben Affleck's Batcave in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, while chatting with Isaac Hempstead-Wright about Game of Thrones Season 6. The issue is out tomorrow, and promises to be full of never-before-revealed Doctor Strange secrets. Check back with us soon to learn more about Marvel's next big blockbuster.
