Last month, Marvel finally confirmed that actress Rachel McAdams has signed on as the female lead in the Phase Three superhero adventure Doctor Strange. The studio never did confirm what character she is playing, which lead to rampant speculation that the actress is either Clea, Stephen Strange's love interest, or Linda Carter, one of the Night Nurse characters from the Marvel Comics. Today, Latino Review claims that the actress is actually playing a different Night Nurse character, Christine Palmer.

Weeks before Rachel McAdams was confirmed, it was rumored that the actress will be playing Linda Carter, after comments made by Marvel's Daredevil showrunner Steven S. DeKnight. He revealed that they had originally planned on casting Rosario Dawson as Linda Carter, the first Night Nurse, but they changed her character to Claire Temple because Marvel already had "plans" for Linda Carter in the works. This lead to speculation that Rachel McAdams will play Linda Carter, but if this new report is accurate, that won't be the case.

In the comics, Christine Palmer is in fact one of the Night Nurses, showing up as the primary character in 1973's "Night Nurse #4." Latino Review speculates that the studio may have went with the Christine Palmer character instead of Linda Carter because Palmer has a background as a surgical assistant, which could provide a perfect pairing with neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch). Marvel wouldn't comment on the report, so we'll have to wait and see if they officially announce her character in the near future.

Regardless of who she's playing Rachel McAdams joins a cast that also includes Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One and Chiwetel Ejiofor as the villainous Baron Mordo, although no other cast members or characters have been confirmed yet. Producer Kevin Feige also clarified earlier this month that Doctor Strange will in fact be an origin story. There had been rumors that claimed the studio was "sick" of origin stories, although he did tease that it will be told in a much different way.

Scott Derrickson is directing Doctor Strange from a script by Jon Spaihts, based on the comic book character created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Production is believed to begin very soon, so perhaps the studio will finally confirm once and for all who Rachel McAdams is playing. Do you think it's a good choice to cast Rachel McAdams as Night Nurse Christine Palmer? Or do you wish she was playing Linda Carter instead?
