When Doctor Strange hits theaters in November, it will mark the end of a very long road to the big screen. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige first mentioned the possibility of a Doctor Strange movie way back in 2009, while Iron Man 2 was in production, with the studio hiring Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer to write the script in 2010, but the project didn't find its footing until four years later, when writer-director Scott Derrickson came aboard. With just months until this Marvel Phase 3 movie arrives, today we have word that another writer was brought aboard for some last-minute rewrites, Community creator Dan Harmon.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Marvel Studios brought on Dan Harmon after the superhero adventure had wrapped production in April. The studio was looking for a writer to create some new scenes "for additional photography," according to the site's source. It isn't known if he will get any writing credit for his work, although it seems unlikely.

Director Scott Derrickson wrote the script with his collaborator C. Robert Cargill, a former online movie critic from Ain't It Cool News who used to write under the pseudonym "Massawyrm." Jon Spaihts, best known for Prometheus and the upcoming Passengers, will receive a story credit on this superhero movie, which delves into the mystical side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While this project will mark Dan Harmon's first foray into the superhero world, the MCU is no stranger to Community alums.

Before coming aboard to direct Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and then Captain America: Civil War and the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War, Anthony Russo and Joe Russo were best known as the executive producers of hit sitcoms like Arrested Development, Happy Endings and Dan Harmon's Community. The directors started a tradition by giving small roles to Community star Danny Pudi (Abed) in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Jim Rash (Dean Pelton) in Captain America: Civil War. The filmmakers revealed they will continue this tradition in Avengers: Infinity War, but they don't quite know which Community cast member will come aboard next.

Before creating Community, Dan Harmon wrote the script for the 2006 animated comedy Monster House, and also co-created The Sarah Silverman Project. The writer also did uncredited work on the first Kung Fu Panda as well, and he currently stars in a new show he created, Great Minds With Dan Harmon. Stay tuned for more updates on the Sorcerer Supreme's big screen debut as soon as more details arrive.
