Peyton Elizabeth Lee is all set to star in Doogie Kealoha, M.D. Disney+ announced last year that they were moving forward on their Doogie Howser, M.D. reboot with How I Met Your Mother and Fresh Off the Boat writer Kourtney Kang. The show originally debuted in 1989 on ABC, where it became a cult hit with Neil Patrick Harris as the star. Lee is playing the title character, a 16-year old wunderkind who is working as a doctor while her peers are still in high school, dealing with day-to-day life as teenagers. Harris' take on the character had a hard time relating to his peers, which will likely be incorporated into the reboot series.

Peyton Elizabeth Lee is best-known for playing the title character on all three seasons of Disney Channel's original hit series Andi Mack. She was most recently seen as Princess Samantha in the Disney+ Original movie Secret Society of Second-Born Royals, for which the young actress was nominated for a Critics Choice Award for Best Lead Actress in a Superhero Film. Lee has also been seen in Stumptown, The Lion Guard, and Showtime's Shameless, where she has a recurring role as character called Girl Soldier. Lee also had a small role in the TV series Scandal in 2015.

Doogie Kealoha, M.D. focuses on Lahela "Doogie" Kamealoha (played by Peyton Elizabeth Lee), a mixed race 16-year old girl, who is juggling a budding medical career and life as a teenager. Guiding Lahela (and also complicating things) is her family, including her spit-fire Irish mother who's also her supervisor at the hospital. Her Hawaiian "Local Boy" father is struggling to accept that his daughter is no longer his little girl.

Doogie Kealoha, M.D. is written by Kourtney Kang and set in modern-day Hawaii, which is another twist to separate itself from the original series. As to whether or not Neil Patrick Harris will make a cameo in the reboot, that is unclear, but fans are hoping that he will show up at some point. Disney has a way of making things happen, so we'll have to wait and see if Harris decides to join in on the project. As for Kang, it is believed that she is throwing some of her personal Hawaiian experience into the series. It is unclear when Disney+ will be debuting Doogie Kealoha, M.D.

The original Doogie Howser M.D. series ran from 1989 to 1993 and was created by television juggernauts Steven Bochco and David E. Kelley. Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. is written and executive produced by Kourtney Kang and produced by 20th Television, a part of Disney Television Studios. Jake Kasdan, Melvin Mar, along with Dayna and Jesse Bochco will executive produce the series. Jake Kasdan is on board to direct the first episode of the Disney+ reboot. Deadline was one of the first outlets to announce that Peyton Elizabeth Lee will be starring in the Disney+ series, Doogie Kealoha, M.D.
