According to Variety, in a deal worth mid-six figures, Paramount Pictures has optioned Dope, an upcoming mystery novel by Sara Gran that ventures into the seamy underbelly of '50s New York drug culture. Michael London will produce.

To be published in January by Penguin Putnam, Dope is about a former junkie who, after getting sober, is hired to find a Barnard student who dropped out to live with her drug dealer boyfriend.

Deal is the second for Gran, as Miramax is developing Come Closer, with a script being written by Hossein Amini.

Dope developed momentum in New York last week, and several studios bid on the galleys.
