Universal Pictures has handed out an August 8, 2014 release date for Dracula Year Zero, which has Luke Evans attached to star. As of now, no other movies are scheduled for release on August 8, although Marvel's Phase Two adventure Guardians of the Galaxy opens one week earlier on August 1.

The story, written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, blends mythological fiction told in Bram Stoker's classic Dracula novel, with the true story of Vlad the Impaler, the historical figure whom the vampire was based on.

Gary Shore took over as director back in February. The project previously had Alex Proyas set to direct and Sam Worthington attached to star back in 2010, but the project fell apart due to budgetary issues.
