DreamWorks is planning a modern adaptation of John Steinbeck's novel The Grapes of Wrath with Steven Spielberg on board to produce.

The story was brought to the big screen in 1940 by John Ford, which had Henry Fonda starring as Tom Joad. The story centers on a poor family of farmers, who are forced to move off of their farm in Oklahoma. After being ousted from their farm, the family moves to California with dreams of higher wages. They continue to struggle out west due to The Great Depression.

The studio confirms that Steven Spielberg will not be directing this reboot. The director will be helming Jason Dean Hall's adaptation of American Sniper starring Bradley Cooper. No production schedule has been released.
