Despite essentially leaving acting behind her, Drew Barrymore has now declared that she would return to the big screen for Charlie’s Angels 3 alongside Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu. Speaking with People, Barrymore states that she would “show up” for another sequel in the action movie franchise, even if it were just to work with Diaz and Liu once again all these years later.

“Those are interesting challenges because they have been established. That really is building upon something. There’s so much history there that they don’t feel like [the work of] making films. It’s like, ‘Do you want to spend your life doing that? With those people?’ Yes. I would show up. I really would. Because then you're talking about life experiences, and time with people who are really important to you, and that isn't work. That's a gift."

Barrymore first starred as Charlie’s Angels member Dylan back in 2000, with Cameron Diaz starring and Lucy Liu as Alex. Acting as a continuation of the television series of the same name but with more comedic elements, Charlie’s Angels received mixed reviews upon release, but this was not enough to stop a sequel, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, from being released in 2003.

Another offering in the franchise was released in 2019, changing the core trio from Barrymore, Diaz, and Liu to Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska. Unfortunately, the outing was met with mixed reviews and a poor box office performance. Could a return for Barrymore, Diaz, and Liu fare better?

Drew Barrymore Would Love to Reunite with Adam Sandler

Not only would the idea of a Charlie’s Angels sequel be enough to tempt Barrymore back, but the talk show host went on to state that reuniting with 50 First Dates co-star Adam Sandler would also be reason enough to once again demonstrate her acting skills.

“As soon as you talk about Adam Sandler, I’m like, ‘Oh, well maybe. Sure.'”

Together, Barrymore and Sandler have led a trio of romantic comedies over the years, with the pair starring in The Wedding Singer, 50 First Dates, and Blended. Two of which are now considered to be classic examples of the genre. The chemistry between the pair is instant, and no doubt audiences would love to see Barrymore and Sandler team up once again for a wholesome, hilarious rom-com.

Now the host of The Drew Barrymore Show, Barrymore walked away from acting following the birth of her children. "I stopped doing movies when my kids were born," the actress explained back in 2021. "Because I’ve done it since I was in diapers - at 11 months old is when I started - and it was a no brainer to me to put making movies on a back-burner so that I can be present and raise my kids myself."

Despite leaving acting behind, Barrymore can’t help but think about potential projects should she ever return, recently pitching a remake of Planes, Trains, and Automobiles led by herself and Charlie’s Angels co-star Cameron Diaz.
