Who's ready for The Drew Barrymore Show? Following Netflix giving the boot to the popular series Santa Clarita Diet, star and executive producer Drew Barrymore has lined up her next small screen project. This week, the actress will be in New York to shoot a daytime talk show pilot for CBS Television Distribution.

Additionally, Drew Barrymore will be executive producing the hour-long series as well. As of now, the title hasn't been revealed and no showrunner is reported to be attached to the project, but if production is under way, updates on the pilot should be forthcoming. According to reports, the brass at CBS are confident in Barrymore's appeal as a daytime TV personality and see great potential in the show's success.

Barrymore has had a presence in Hollywood dating back to her youth, when she began her movie career as a child star. One of her earliest roles came in the 1982 Steven Spielberg classic E.T.: the Extra-Terrestrial, following it up with parts in the Stephen King movies Firestarter and Cat's Eye. After getting older and appearing in movies like Scream, Best Men, and Mad Love, Barrymore then had a run of memorable romantic comedy roles like The Wedding Singer, Never Been Kissed, and 50 First Dates. Her next big screen role will be in the upcoming comedy movie The Stand-In from director Jamie Babbit.

After achieving great success in Hollywood, Barrymore has more recently turned her attention to starring on the small screen. For three seasons, Barrymore starred as mom-turned-zombie Sheila Hammond on the Netflix series Santa Clarita Diet, with Timothy Olyphant co-starring as her husband. Despite the blood and horror elements, the series was very much a comedy, as the Hammonds simultaneously try to live a normal suburban family life while keeping Sheila's condition a secret. Critically, the series only seemed to get better as it went along, with its third season drawing a 100% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Unfortunately, the show's popularity and critical reception wasn't enough to save the show, as Netflix officially axed it earlier this year.

Barrymore has also often appeared on various talk shows and reality TV programs, so hosting a new series won't be a stretch for the actress. In the '90s, Barrymore made headlines when she stood on David Letterman's desk and flashed him during a Late Show interview. To this day, the incident is still often talked about and referred to as one of the most shocking talk show moments of all time. More recently, she appeared as a judge on the reality competition series The World's Best along with RuPaul and Faith Hill, with James Corden hosting. Barrymore also recently served as the narrator of the NBC dating series First Dates.

With details on Barrymore's daytime talk show pilot currently under wraps, there's little else for us to go on. If CBS likes what they see and puts in a series order, then we'll be seeing Barrymore back on the small screen soon enough. This news comes to us from Variety.
