Back in October, we reported that Bobby Farrelly and Peter Farrelly were planning Dumb and Dumber 2 (apparently titled Dumb and Dumber To, with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels set to return as Lloyd and Harry. Today we have word that Jim Carrey has left the project, due to New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. showing a, "lack of enthusiasm" for the follow-up.

Here's what the actor had to say, through his publicist.

"I would have thought Dumb and Dumber To was a no-brainer, after all it's implied in the title."

The Farrelly brothers have had casting roadblocks in the past involving the funnyman. He was set to star alongside Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro in The Three Stooges before the project fell apart. The brothers eventually went with Sean Hayes, Will Sasso, and Chris Diamantopoulos. Of course, it will be a lot harder to re-cast a role like Lloyd Christmas for a sequel, especially for a comedy as popular as Dumb and Dumber.

Sex Drive writers Sean Anders and John Morris wrote the screenplay for the Farrelly's to direct from. It's not clear yet if this casting departure will mean the end of this sequel or not.
