Many fans were skeptical when Denis Villeneuve announced that he would be directing the Dune film, but he proved almost everyone wrong, with the movie earning six Academy Awards and becoming a box office blockbuster. The director is returning to blow our minds once more with Dune Part Two. The highly anticipated sequel will complete Villeneuve's adaptation of the original book, although many more sequels are possible in the future.

In the first film, we follow Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet), who faces the wrath of House Harkonnens after arriving in Arrakis and losing almost everyone close to him, including his father, who is the head of House Atreides, Duke Leto (Oscar Isaac), and Duncan Idaho (Jason Momoa), his close friend and mightiest soldier. With Paul and his mother, Lady Jessica, fleeing in the desert, they come across the mysterious Fremen, with whom Paul forms a bond after killing one of them in a duel.

The official trailer for Dune Part Two has recently been released, and while it doesn't show much of the movie itself, it gives an intriguing glimpse of what to expect. So, here's our detailed breakdown of Dune Part Two's trailer.

Settling with the Fremen

You'd think that after such a dreadful experience, Paul would find it difficult to settle with the Fremen, but the trailer's first clip suggests otherwise.

The trailer begins with Paul and Chani relishing a quiet and serene time while sitting in Arrakis' desert, admiring the grandeur of the enormous sand dunes. When Paul states, "Where you see sand here, imagine water. You dive in. You can't reach the bottom," Chani finds it hard to believe, having grown up in the desert since she was young, as opposed to Paul, who was raised in the midst of oceans and pools of Caladan.

Later on, we see Paul using the pseudo shield to attract a sandworm, which, while it sounds crazy, is perfectly explained in the trailer when Chani asks, "Have you ever had a dream about your first ride?" Paul prepares for the most important Fremen ritual by riding one of the monstrous sandworms that are abundant in the Arrakis desert.

He sums up the courage needed to ride the sandworm with nothing more than a couple of hooks in his hand, through which many Fremen will recognize him as one of their own. Despite his acceptance by Fremen, the enemy refuses to wait since they may have concerns about Paul Atreides surviving the previous massacre.

The Shadows of Arrakis

"In the shadows of Arrakis lie many secrets…but the darkest of them all may remain." The narration of this incredible phrase comes from none other than Florence Pugh, who appears to play the role of Padishah Emperor's daughter.

The scene reveals Lady Jessica in a new appearance with blue eyes and face tattoos, which was initially revealed in the first film through Paul's visions. Given that she is the Reverend Mother of the Fremen, the markings could be seen as Fremen's symbolism, reflecting the depth of her connection to the Fremen and their culture.

Princess Irulan (daughter of Padishah Emperor) is shown holding some sort of recorder as she speaks and ponders the possibility of Paul still surviving in the desert, as his death was never evidenced. Despite Lady Jessica's attempt to prevent Paul from pursuing vengeance by stating, "Your father didn't believe in revenge," the surprising reappearance of Josh Brolin's Gurney Halleck, Paul's mentor, may change that.

The previous film did not reveal who else from the House of Atreides survived, but the shadows of Arrakis will rise once again to reclaim what they have lost and return peace to the deserts.

The Final Battle Against House Harkonnens

While several scenes have hinted at the romance between Paul and Chani, which many fans believe will be the heart of Dune Part Two, the introduction of yet another new character Feyd-Rautha (Austin Butler), the nephew of Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, hints at a dark ending for the film. Feyd-Rautha, wielding dual blades and bearing a nefarious expression, stands fiercely over a warrior whom he appears to have defeated in a fighting pit.

As for Paul, it seems that he is struggling, as demonstrated by Lady Jessica's words, "We gave them something to hope for," to which Paul responds, "That's not hope." Despite the difficult task of uniting all the Fremen and leading them to combat to save their desert from the Emperor and House Harkonnens, Paul seems to have risen as the chosen one as Lisan-al-Gaib, the savior of Arrakis.

The trailer concludes with Paul preparing for a duel to the death with Feyd-Rautha as he spells, "May thy knife chip and shatter," motivating all the unified Fremen to one final showdown against the House Harkonnens, who deserve what's coming to them.

Although fans expected additional shocking revelations from the trailer, they must remember that Dune is nothing like what the trailer depicts. It only scratches the surface of what Dune Part Two entails.

Dune Part Two is expected to hit theaters on Nov. 3.
