The upcoming Dune prequel series, Dune: The Sisterhood, has added Vikings and Warcraft star Travis Fimmel. The series, which will debut on HBO Max, will be set 10,000 years before the events of last year’s Dune: Part One and will explore the life and times of the Harkonnen sisters.

The addition of Travis Fimmel to the series comes courtesy of Deadline, with the actor due to portray a character named Desmond Hart, who is described as “a charismatic soldier with an enigmatic past who seeks to gain the Emperor’s trust at the expense of the Sisterhood.” Travis Fimmel is best known for his role as Ragnar Lothbrok in the television series Vikings, and no doubt fans of the show will be eager to see the actor join the world of Dune. Fimmel’s other credits include the likes of Raised by Wolves, Warcraft, and That Dirty Black Bag.

The Vikings star joins the likes of Academy Award nominee Emily Watson and Harry Potter star Shirley Henderson, who will play Valya and Tula Harkonnen, respectively. The rest of the cast behind Dune: The Sisterhood features Indira Varma, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Chloe Lea, Faoileann Cunningham, Aoife Hinds, and Shalom Brune-Franklin.

Dune: The Sisterhood will act as a prequel to director Denis Villeneuve’s ongoing movie series, and will drop audiences into the wonderfully complex sci-fi world of Frank Herbert thousands of years before the journey of Paul Atreides. Based partly on the 2012 novel Sisterhood of Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, the series will center on the Harkonnen Sisters “as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect known as the Bene Gesserit,” according to recent reports.

Co-produced by HBO Max and Legendary Television, Dune: The Sisterhood has been created by Diane Ademu-John, who will also serve as writer, co-showrunner and executive producer. Denis Villeneuve is on board as an executive producer alongside Jon Spaihts, Scott Z. Burns, Matthew King, John Cameron, Cait Collins, and author Brian Herbert. Filming on the series is now underway.

Dune
Warner Bros.

Released last year, the first Dune follows Duke Leto Atreides as he accepts stewardship of the dangerous desert planet Arrakis, the only source of the most valuable substance in the universe, "melange," AKA "the spice." Though Leto knows the opportunity is an intricate trap set by his enemies, he takes his concubine Lady Jessica, young son and heir Paul, but soon after their arrival, a bitter betrayal leads Paul and Jessica to the Fremen, natives of Arrakis who live in the deep desert.

Dune: Part One covered the first half of the source novel, with Dune: Part Two set to depict the second. Thus, the follow-up will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.

Dune: Part Two will feature a stellar ensemble cast featuring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling and Stephen McKinley Henderson. Dune: Part Two will add Don't Worry Darling and Black Widow star Florence Pugh, Elvis actor Austin Butler, Hollywood icon Christopher Walken, and Crimes of the Future’s Léa Seydoux.

Dune: Part Two is scheduled to be released on November 3, 2023.
