Christopher Nolan is directing as well as writing the screenplay for Dunkirk. The movie will revolve around the true life evacuation of Dunkirk during Operation Dynamo in WWII. This British military operation was responsible for saving 330,000 Allied soldiers' lives as they became surrounded by German Forces. Emma Thomas is co-producing the movie alongside Christopher Nolan. The movie is being shot on IMAX 65mm and 65mm large-format film photography, and will utilize some of the 70mm projectors that director Quentin Tarantino helped install at various theaters around the U.S. for his The Hateful Eight Roadshow this past Christmas.

Dunkirk begins production in May utilizing some of the real locations where the operation took place. The movie is already set for a July 2017 release date, and will arrive in IMAX, 70mm and 35mm. Cillian Murphy was last seen starring in Ron Howard's In the Heart of the Sea. He'll next be seen in the thriller Free Fire starring alongside recent Academy Award winning actress Brie Larson. He also has the thriller Anthropoid on the horizon, which teams him with Jamie Dornan.
