With production still under way on director Christopher Nolan's World War II drama Dunkirk, we've already seen a few different set photos, although they haven't been terribly revealing. One of the most surprising additions to the cast was One Direction singer Harry Styles, who makes his acting debut in this movie, although nothing about his character has been revealed yet. Today we have our first look at the singer-turned-actor on the set in Swanage, England, where the 22-year-old star is seen guzzling a few beers.
The photos showcase Harry Styles with a number of beer bottles and other items while hanging out of a train window, taking a few chugs. No further details were given regarding this scene, but it's possible that this scene happens just before this soldier goes off to war, as he gets a few last drinks in before reporting for duty.
Dunkirk opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in. Dunkirk features a prestigious cast, including Tom Hardy (The Revenant, Mad Max: Fury Road, Inception), Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies, Wolf Hall), Kenneth Branagh (My Week with Marilyn, Hamlet, Henry V) and Cillian Murphy (Inception, The Dark Knight Trilogy), as well as newcomer Fionn Whitehead. The first photos that debuted in May revealed several WWII soldiers getting ready for battle.
The last we heard about this project was a report from last month, which claimed that director Christopher Nolan will be crashing a vintage World War II plane for this movie. While unconfirmed, this report claimed that Warner Bros. paid a massive $5 million sum to purchase a vintage plane, only to crash it as part of this production. This plane will reportedly be outfitted with several IMAX cameras to film scenes on before it will be crashed.
Christopher Nolan is directing from his own script and producing with his longtime partner Emma Thomas. Warner Bros. Pictures is distributing Dunkirk worldwide and has slated the film for a July 21, 2017 release, putting it up against EuropaCorp's Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, Universal's Girl Trip and 20th Century Fox's animated film The Story of Ferdinand.
