According to The Hollywood Reporter, Charles Shyer is signing on to rewrite and direct Father Knows Less for New Line Cinema. Dustin Hoffman is attached to star in the comedy, which is being produced by Robert Simonds and Laura Hopper.

The story centers on a successful exec and father who, after his 27-year-old second wife leaves him, must turn to his grown children to help him be a better dad.

Shyer, who last wrote and directed Alfie, finds himself on turf in which he's had considerable success, having co-written and directed the Father of the Bride movies and been Oscar-nominated for co-writing Private Benjamin.
