A new indie film just cast another big-name player. According to Variety, Dustin Hoffman has signed on to star in Barney's Version.

Hoffman will be starring with Paul Giamatti in the film based off the novel by Mordecai Richler. Hoffman will play the title character, a retired cop whose reckless life includes three marriages that spawned two children and he is also a "person of interest" in the disappearance of an old friend.

Michael Konyves wrote the adaptation which Richard J. Lewis will direct from. Shooting will begin on August 17 in Rome.
