Actor Dwayne Johnson has been confirmed to star in Hercules: The Thracian Wars for MGM Studios and director Brett Ratner. We reported last month that Dwayne Johnson was circling the role, and now the studio has confirmed a deal has been reached.

Hercules: The Thracian Wars is based on the 2008 Radical Publishing graphic novel of the same name, which was written by Steve Moore. The story follows Hercules (Dwayne Johnson), who trains the Thracian army to be ruthless killers.

Brett Ratner will direct Hercules: The Thracian Wars from an adapted script by Ryan Condal (Paradise Lost). Peter Berg, who was once attached to direct the project, is producing with his partner Sarah Aubrey alongside MGM's Roger Birnbaum, Gary Barber, and Jonathan Glickman. Radical Publishing's Barry Levine will also produce.

Filming is scheduled to begin in New Zealand this October.
