Disney's Jungle Cruise chugged into theaters this weekend and landed in the number one slot with a $90 million worldwide gross, which was something that star Dwayne Johnson wasn't going to miss the chance to crow about on his social media accounts. While it has been teased that a sequel is already being discussed, the performance of the movie, both in terms of revenue and audience reaction, has been exceptional and pretty much everything Johnson promised it would be, so the talk of a sequel is likely to get a huge boost from this.

The movie has given Dwayne Johnson his highest audience score of his career at 93%, and took to his Instagram account to show some love for the love the movie has been getting in its opening days. He said, "Saturday swoop in to say THANK YOU for making JUNGLE CRUISE the #1 Movie in the World Many challenges we faced but ultimately we stayed the course and delivered for families around the world in THEATERS and in your LIVING ROOMS this weekend!!! For now, I'll just say that word on the streets is JUNGLE CRUISE is performing in the market place by a measure that no other movie has done this summer.....I'll share more tomorrow (Sunday) once I get confirmations because I have YOU TO THANK! Back to work ~ sip your ZO, now LFG!!!"

Disney's press release about the movie's opening weekend said, "Disney's Jungle Cruise debuted at #1 this weekend, opening to an estimated total of more than $90M globally, including $34.2M in domestic box office, $27.6M in international box office, and over $30M in Disney+ Premier Access consumer spend globally. Jungle Cruise is the perfect summer adventure film, bringing a beloved theme park attraction to both the big screen and living rooms in a way that only Disney can. We remain focused on offering consumer choice during these unprecedented times, and it is clear that fans and families value the ability to make decisions on how they prefer to enjoy Disney's best-in-class storytelling."

Johnson has been teasing recently that he has already had discussions about a sequel, and also only in the last couple of days has suggested that a meeting about the potential follow up will be happening next weekend. With the movie doing big business in current terms, and audiences - if not necessarily critics - lapping up the latest offering from the seemingly never ending run of new Dwayne Johnson movies, it looks like those talks are going to be a lot easier when they do happen.

Johnson's co-star Emily Blunt recently spoke to ET Online about the way the two lead characters bounce off each other in the movie, saying, "They have such different philosophies on life and their sense of humor, like how they walk into every day, it's just completely the antithesis of one another. So, I think it makes for this really fun interplay between them that's reminiscent of those Romancing the Stone films ... That clash of like two people that are kind of storming into each other's world."

It would certainly appear that audiences have taken to the dynamic between the pair, and it is likely will be seeing more of the same coming down the line in a couple of years' time in the form of a sequel.
