Black Adam has been hyped to the max, not necessarily by Warner Bros. marketing department, but by the social media bombardment of Dwayne Johnson. Now The Rock has been commenting again on his approaching introduction to the DCEU as the titular anti-hero, and this time he has been teasing the possible inclusion of another icon of DC.

Black Adam has been coming to “change the hierarchy” of the DCEU for a while now, and every time Johnson has uttered that soundbite it seems that the expectation on the movie jumps a little. Of course, as with any shared universe comic book movie, the real thing people want to know is whether there will an appearance by any other established heroes of the franchise, in particular, Henry Cavill’s Superman. Johnson has now sparked speculation about Cavill’s possible involvement in the movie in response to a fan post suggesting that the Man of Steel should make a cameo in Black Adam.

Having become a huge crowd-pleaser, if not exactly a darling of the critics, Dwayne Johnson has carved himself a career as the maker of loud, mostly illogical summer blockbusters, but with Black Adam comes a lot more, thanks to its part in the wider DCEU to consider. Just as Shazam featured a “Superman” cameo, the question is will Black Adam follow suit? In reaction to the suggestion, Johnson said:

"From back in the day when I was wrestling in flea markets for $40 bucks a match, all the way to now. I've learned to always listen to the audience because they will always lead you to where you need to go. I hear you & I always got you."

Black Adam Will Finally Arrive in October

Black Adam
Warner Bros. Pictures

Over the last year, Black Adam has been pushed around in the Warner Bros. release schedule thanks to the need for reshoots and to allow VFX teams to complete the hefty amount of special effects needed to bring the DC world to life on screen. While all of this has become pretty normal for big blockbuster movies, particularly those that filmed, in part, during tight Covid restrictions, the May reshoots were certainly the main reason for the movie’s release delay.

Of course the delay, and reshoots, simply gave the actor more time to big up his upcoming DC introduction, going so far as to say he was born to play the role of Black Adam. He previously wrote:

"I started training for Black Adam when I came out of the womb. I believe I was born to play this character. But in all honesty, this project has been with me for 10 ten years now. The process began when we started to stand the material up and really developed it into what it is present day. Once the start date was agreed on by our Seven Bucks production company, the rest of my team, Warner Bros. Studio, and DC Comics, I started to build an exhaustive training program with my coach Dave Rienzi. I wanted to come into this in the best shape of my career."

Fans will get to see that shape in all of its glory when Black Adam premieres on October 21.
