Instead of releasing his lastest film Purple Violets in theaters across the country, Ed Burns is going to premier it on iTunes instead. According to Variety, this will be the first time a film will have its exclusive premier on the download service.

Written and directed by Burns, the film stars Selma Blair, Burns, Debra Messing and Patrick Wilson and was produced by Wild Ocean Films. Burns stated, "The specialized movie business has changed so dramatically in the last five years. My style of filmmaking is dying on the vine. These small, talky movies have a hard time finding an audience theatrically, so you need to adapt. There are still people who want to see this nontraditional type of film, and now there are nontraditional ways to get them out there."

The movie will make its iTunes debut on November 20th, 2007. It will retail for $14.99 per download.
